Lying In Wait

Phase 2 • Recoil ~ to shrink back physically or emotionally.
Newton's 3rd law "every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
This second Instar phase was my toughest one. I stayed in this phase entirely way too long and the big foot of doubt and insecurity was lying in wait to squash me like a bug!
Remembering my triathlon days and getting half way through the swim. Letting my mind move too far ahead through the course thinking "OMG, I have a long way to go to the finish line". During my 3rd triathlon I fell way behind because of a shoulder injury and lack of time for swim training. I was 2nd to last out of the water and 2nd to last to leave the bike transition with tears choked up in my throat. I had a 26 mile bike course ahead of me filled with steep hills to climb to get to the next transition and, I WANTED TO QUIT! All I could hear in my head at that moment was "Lose your quit!" "Use your strongest element to regain your time. Stay focused, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. This is YOUR race!"
Pondering relevancy has it's purposeful beneift but when you stop and shrink back you are making a backward motion. It happens, and it happens to the best of us. I just recommend not spending too much time here. Talk it out, push through it, catch a "win" wherever you can. Make up time with your strongest elements and keep moving forward!
As in Newton's 3rd Law • Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Shrink back, shoot forward.
This creature was lying in wait on the amazing walk I had at the start of this blog series.

In my 8 years of countless miles of biking, running, walking I have never had a snake cross my path. That whole morning was filled with one profound encounter after another. After I had parted from exhilerating conversations with new friends on the trail I was in the last leg of my walk back to my vehicle when ahead of me a 5 foot long, fat, bold, ugly reptile slithered across my path. My immediate response...I stopped, sucked back some air and felt myself shrink back a foot. I curiously continued walking and he curiously spun himself around, recoiled and watched my every move in strike mode. I don't know what kind of snake he was, whether he would have tried to strike me, but his eyes were fixed on me with intimidating intent and I wasn't about to hang around too long to see his next move. Cross my path, but I'm gonna keep moving forward!
You know I just had to chuckle the rest of the way. The word picture of that morning could not have been scripted better. I know exactly who the director of my script is...that day, and every day.
The moral of the story • There will ALWAYS be something lying in wait! Be prepared, be aware, be wise, use your tools, and know what to do. Work on your strengths and work harder at and through your weaknesses. If you recoil..talk yourself through it, talk with supportive friends, and pray. Remind yourself who you are and where your strength comes from. God is the maker of Heaven and Earth and he knows you well. Ask Him to help, He will! Just keep moving forward.
As a former Krav Maga student, this video presented itself as very relevant to me and how to be prepared. Continue to enjoy what you love doing but exercise wisdom. You never know when something or someone is lying in wait. Enhance your awareness, don't shrink back and always look the enemy square in the eyes, call him/her out, defend yourself and put some distance between you and the potential threat. Stay alive every day. Don't let your life and intent become a statistic. This applies physically, emotionally, mentally and spirtually. (all my women frenz, please watch!)
